Be a part of the change we all deserve!

Meet Joe

Father, Civil Rights Attorney and Criminal Justice Reformer

Joe Alioto Veronese

I am excited to announce my candidacy to be your next District Attorney of San Francisco.

As the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the City and County of San Francisco, I will work tirelessly to create an equitable criminal justice system that prioritizes personal safety and the protection of all property. The best version of San Francisco is in its future. With your help we will make San Francisco a city that thrives, where all San Franciscans and our worldwide vibrant community of tourists can freely enjoy and celebrate our geography, the arts, the food culture, and the diverse communities that make this city the greatest City in the world.

For more than 20 years I have been fighting as a trial attorney in state and federal courts throughout this country to stand up for the Civil Rights of minorities, women, immigrants, disabled persons, and members of our LGBTQ community. I understand the important role that accountability, restitution and rehabilitation play in an effective criminal justice system.  Essential to creating an equitable criminal justice system is the recognition that communities of color have been disproportionately impacted for decades.

As your California Criminal Justice Commissioner for more than seven years as an appointee of a Democratic Senate under two governors, I supported the transition of the California Department of Corrections with the redirection of tens of millions of dollars of federal funding toward rehabilitation programs. These critical funds created a path for the criminally convicted to becoming contributing members of society.  I will work hard with the California governor and legislators to re-establish a robust justice system that works.  I worked in the administration of District Attorney Terence Hallinan for five years where we established a one-of-its-kind restorative justice program without sacrificing accountability and public safety.

As your Police Commissioner for four years under Mayor Newsom, I fought to rid the San Francisco Police Department of bad cops and approved the hiring of hundreds of new police officers. I spearheaded the increase of public transparency in the police disciplinary process and created the Early Warning System that alerted management of bad conduct. I am a proud supporter of the good men and women of today’s San Francisco Police Department who take extraordinary risks and make selfless sacrifices every day. I will stand shoulder-to-should with the Police and Sheriff’s departments to keep San Francisco safe while I hold them accountable.

As a Native San Franciscan, I am pained by the condition of our City today.  As a father, I fear for the safety of our youth, our elderly, our vulnerable people and our pets.  I have made it my personal endeavor to deliver a safe City for all San Franciscans. The alternative is not an option and the status quo is unacceptable.

You deserve the best version of San Francisco! I will fight tirelessly to deliver results, not politics. I will fight for your personal safety, the protection of property and a criminal justice system that serves victims and delivers due process to the accused.

Join my campaign for a safe San Francisco we all deserve!
